The most popular oriental rhinoplasty is augmentation. Augmantation of the nasal dorsum using alloplastic materials has been the primary surgical procedure. But, sometimes lateral and medial osteotomy of the nose was necessary to correct nasal deformities including deviation, hump, cleft lip nose deformity and broad radix.
We have performed in 36 patients lateral osteotomy combined with augmentation rhinoplasties, humpectomy, tip plasty, or septal surgery. In particular, the narrower operative field allowed by the smaller nasal bone of the oriental as compared with the larger nasal bone of the caucasian makes osteotomy more difficult, thus requiring a more refined operative technique. We will describe the surgical techniques of lateral osteotomy of oriental rhinoplasty and also present the indications, adjuvant procedures, and unfavorable results of our cases.
